PEP-74: Supervisor Update — Confirm Metabase58 and Retire Campbell Law

Attributes

Motivation

As part of our Cayman Islands compliance requirements we need to maintain an active Supervisor. In practice, there has been a participation gap in the Supervisor function. So, in order to ensure our continued compliance with Cayman law, we appointed Metabase58 to serve as Supervisor on an interim basis, pending formal DAO approval

This proposal seeks DAO affirmation and formal approval of Metabase58’s appointment as Supervisor of Pocket Network Foundation.

Specification

  • Remove Campbell Law as a Supervisor.

  • Appoint Metabase58 as a Supervisor in their place, effective upon passage of this PIP and subject to any required Cayman filings or notifications

Rationale

  • Compliance & Clarity: Supervisors must be present and engaged to fulfill their role.

  • Engagement: Metabase58 has demonstrated ongoing involvement in DAO operations and community discussions.

  • Practical Alignment: This update reflects the reality of who is actively contributing, ensuring effective Supervisor performance.

Acknowledgement

We are grateful to Campbell Law for their willingness to serve as a Supervisor and for fulfilling the role during these previous years. This proposal is not a reflection of any fault; rather, it is an administrative update to reflect current availability and operational needs.

Next Steps

  • Confirm and approve this update to the Supervisor list.
  • If community members feel strongly about an alternative appointment, we welcome discussion and feedback.
  • Upon approval, proceed with any Cayman Islands filings or notifications required to update Supervisor records.

If community members prefer an alternative Cayman-qualified appointment, we welcome discussion and feedback, including the possibility of future re-engagement with Campbell Law as availability permits.

How has Metabase 58 demonstrated involvement? Have particular Metabase58 individuals been active? (if the answer is obvious and it’s just me not paying attention, I apologize  )

Hey Zaatar!

Thank you for your question! It’s definitely not obvious and I love that you ask so more people can understand

Metabase58 has been on our radar for some time due to their strong background in Web3 and their ongoing support in legal matters related to PNF. Their familiarity with our ecosystem and proactive engagement make them well positioned to contribute effectively in a supervisory capacity.

From the Foundation’s perspective, it’s important that all Supervisors are not only formally appointed but also actively engaged and available to fulfill their oversight responsibilities. Maintaining this level of engagement is essential to ensure the Foundation remains compliant and aligned with best governance practices.

While we’re grateful to Campbell Law for their willingness to serve, they have not been closely invovled in recent DAO or Foundation activities as we would expect. This proposal is simply meant to align the official records with the current level of active participation and ensure the Foundation remains in full compliance.

Let me know if you have any further questions! Happy to help! :raised_hands:t4:

This proposal has been moved to a vote.

Can you provide specifics?

Sure, the nuts and bolts of running a foundation. Recording the filings for DAO actions, director appointments, etc. And staying up to date on compliance requirements, and any changes we have to make to remain compliant. It would take weeks to months to get simple admin changes complete before.

I must say I trust you guys in this one, I have no idea on how the foundation manages the legal part at the Alligator Islands…

I must say I am in the dark on this one. What criteria should DAO voters use to determine whether they should vote yes or no?

I mean, it’s a simple administrative change, but the reasoning why is pretty basic: our previous secretary was expensive and slow to respond, and the current interim secretary (pending approval) has been quickly responsive, efficient, and effective. You’re welcome to research both firms if you like.
